TrimBoard Class Action against
Louisiana-Pacific Corporation

On July 12, 2012, the United States District for the Eastern District of North Carolina granted Plaintiffs' unopposed motion to provide notice to the certified class in Hart v. Louisiana-Pacific Corporation. The lawsuit concerns TrimBoard, which is an exterior trim product designed, marketed and sold by ABTCO, Inc. and, later, its successor, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation ("LP"), used on homes, apartments, condominiums, buildings and other structures. Plaintiffs allege that TrimBoard is actually defective in design and manufacture because it prematurely deteriorates, rots, swells, buckles, splits, checks, cracks, delaminates, absorbs water, warps and/or bulges under normal conditions and exposure; it causes consequential water and structural damage; and it promotes the growth of health-threatening mold, mildew, fungi, and insect infestation in the structures in which it is installed.

TrimBoard was typically installed as exterior fascia, soffit, corner board, bandboards, window trim, door trim and general exterior trim. The TrimBoard has several identifying characteristics that may help you determine if you are a member of the class defined above:

  1. One face of the TrimBoard is textured and one face is smooth;
  2. One side of the face of the TrimBoard has a chamfer running lengthwise;
  3. There is a laminate (or "glue") line visible at the ends and/or edges of the TrimBoard; and
  4. There is a paper overlay on the faces of the TrimBoard.
